Fresh Peach Orange Blossom Cookies

Adapted from Marta Stewart’s Cookies.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus 2 tablespoons
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 stick unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon Orange blossom water
  • 2 large peaches, pitted, and cut into 1/4-inch dice.
  • 1/3 cup peach jam or preserves

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375. Whisk together flour, salt, and baking soda. Beat butter and granulated sugar with a mixer on medium-high speed until pale and fluffy, about 4 minutes. Reduce speed to low. Beat in egg and orange blossom water. Add flour mixture, and beat until just combined. Add peaches and jam, and beat until just combined.

Using a 1 1/2-inch ice cream scoop or a tablespoon, drop dough onto baking sheets lined with parchment, spacing about 2 inches apart. Bake cookies, rotating sheets halfway through, until golden brown and just set, 11 to 13 minutes. Let cool on sheets for 5 minutes, and then transfer cookies to wire racks to cool completely.

oooooooooh, so pretty! I guess with the cakey-ness would be reminiscent of a Madeleine? I love the addition of peaches. I rarely buy them anymore because I can never eat them fast enough. They get so ripe so quickly… but as an alternative to crisps or pies, this is vunderbar ;)

I’ve got a ton of fresh peaches I bought on a whim at the market last week, so I’m desperately looking for interesting things I can make with them (besides peach pie.. because peach pie is so obvious). And this recipe is exactly what I needed!
Now I just need to pick up some orange blossom water, because that sounds like a great flavour to go with ripe peaches. YUM.

Anna – you have this ability to make everything you post about instantly an object of desire! Those cookies, the cup and saucer, the biscuit jar, even the table top! You may not know this, but you are my photography “sensei” and I hope to one day become a worthy student…..

Hmmm, that peach cutter looks like something I might have to own. Where did you get it?? And these cookies sound like such a great marriage of flavors, although I dont have any orange blossom water, but plenty of peaches. What do you think I could substitute instead?

Hi Amanda, the Orange blossom water usually you can find in any Israeli or Middle Eastern market, Rose water would be nice too. :-) PS. The peach cutter is from Williams Sonoma.

You changed your banner! Looks good.
I have seen a gadget like this at a Paperchef party back in Ohio, but it was used for coring and slicing apples. In any case, it looks useful.
Every time I pass by the aisle that holds orange and rose water in my local Persian store I stop and contemplate if I should buy one or the other. They just sound intoxicatingly good.
I love your photos!
Greetings from Orange County!
